Round Linen Placemats

Round linen placemats with a flower-cut edge, in red or natural linen, sold in fours or sixes. A round mat is the one that suits a round table — square mats on a circular top leave awkward wedges of bare surface between each setting.

Linen handles the heat of a plate straight from the oven and takes a wash afterwards, which is more than can be said for cork or woven straw. The shaped edge gives the setting a finish without pattern or print.

Why you'll love it

• Round for round tables — settings sit without awkward gaps.
• Takes a hot plate — linen insulates and washes.
• Shaped edge — detail without printed pattern.
• Four or six — in red or natural linen.

Buy one more than you have chairs. Placemats come out of rotation for washing, and a table set with five matching mats and one different is worse than no mats at all.
