Walnut Boat Bowl

A long bowl turned from solid walnut, boat-shaped rather than round. Walnut is the dark, close-grained timber used for good furniture — considerably more expensive than the pale woods most kitchenware is made from, and it looks it.

The elongated shape suits a table better than a round bowl does. It runs along a table rather than sitting in the middle of it, which works for bread, fruit or a salad served alongside other dishes rather than as the centrepiece.

Why you'll love it

• Solid walnut — dark, close-grained, ages beautifully.
• Boat shape — runs along a table instead of dominating it.
• Serve or store — bread and salad, or fruit left out.
• Individual grain — no two pieces the same.
